1800 Club Awards 2008-2009
By Randy Brooks Our ACFSQ/ DFA members and staff had a fun filled day at the 1800 Club celebration on July 16 at Stevinson Ranch. I would like to acknowledge those dedicated golfers who endured the sweltering heat and helped make the day special.
How does a member facility earn this recognition? To achieve this rating, our professional team of certified sanitarians conducts unannounced inspections of member facilities looking at many food safety categories which include plant and grounds, sanitary facilities and controls, sanitary operations, equipment and utensils, design and process and controls. The maximum rating or "points" achievable is 2000. The score of 1800 is 90%, thus reflecting the term "1800 Club". The rating of 1800 or better places the facility in the highest category of the ACFSQ/DFA inspection program. Remember, our Food Safety Team is here to assist our members in reaching this significant goal. During our annual 1800 Club event we recognize a member
facility that has shown a consistent high-level of sanitation, continuous
improvement in facility sanitation and management commitment to food safety. It
is our privilege to announce that Chico Nut Company was selected as our 1800
Club Plant of the Year and is featured in this edition of our newsletter under
the Member Spotlight. Presenting awards at the 1800 Club meeting were, from left, Pat Ferreira, Skip Hubbard, Gary Ford and Randy Brooks
* 86% of our plants earned at least one excellent score * 17 plants earned scores of 1800 or better for all three periods * 17 plants had their Food Safety/HACCP Plans audited by the ACFSQ/DFA and received Certificates of Registration Now at the beginning of a new year, we encourage our members to continue their efforts in maintaining excellence in food safety and sanitation. Please contact any of our sanitarians with questions you have regarding food safety, sanitation and GMPs. It is our goal to assist you in your efforts to achieve this high level of food safety assurance. Congratulations to all 2008-2009 1800 Club Members! |

SCTC Summer Meeting By Erika Tarr & Patrick Ferreira The Specialty Crop Trade Council (SCTC) held its summer meeting on August 11, 2009 in Stockton, California. 40 SCTC members and associate members attended. The meeting began with an introduction of the new President /CEO of SCTC, Gary Ford. A recap of 2009-2010 carrier contracts were reviewed. SCTC is currently renegotiating rates with Hapag Lloyd as our current contract expires on August 31, 2009. The membership will be notified once the contract has been agreed upon, signed, and the new contract number is provided by the carrier. read more Container Shortage By Erika Tarr Recently, there has been a container shortage in Oakland with a couple of our carriers. This is due to the low number of imports that are coming into this particular port. With the low volume of imports and a continuous flow of exports out of Oakland, it was inevitable that the carriers would soon run out of equipment. Traditionally, we have an issue with reefers (refrigerated containers); however, in 2009 we have seen a shortage of 20’ and 40’ dry containers (non-refrigerated containers). read more U.S. Free Trade agreements Please click here for more information |
